Some of you know I am privileged to be a part of The House on Beekman in the Bronx. Two years ago, before I moved to Manhattan a young lady named Sara moved from a place of privilege in Manhattan to one of the poorest neighborhoods in the Bronx when she saw the needs of the people out there. Six months ago, I started teaching a Parenting class offered for the first time to these ladies. I feel so honored to do this and humbled at the same time. I think this class has helped teach them skills they hadn't thought about. My hope is they learn skills to be better parents to their children and stop abusive cycles they were taught. These ladies have come to trust and love us. It's been a God thing!
This is where I meet Jenn. It came to my attention that all three of her children, including herself and her husband sleep on cushions and blankets on the floor. Derek and I went out today to visit Jenn and her 3 day old baby. Jenn shared with us that she can't remember the last time she slept on a bed! Soon they will all have beds! TRinity Grace Church, being the hands and feet of Jesus.
